"We follow Jesus, so we're under grace, not law!"
What do Christians mean when they say this? Does it mean we don't have to obey the 10 Commandments? Does it mean we're no longer condemned by the law of the Old Testament?
In this chapter Paul the Apostle addresses the question, What about the Law of Moses?" Paul's shocking take on the law is this: the law increased sin; we were in bondage to the law, we died with Christ and were released from our bondage, and now we're not under law, but grace.
This would have stunned Paul's Jewish brothers! Everyone knew that the law curbed sin, not increased it! How can he say such things about the holy law of God??
The big question in this section is, What does it mean that we're no longer under the Old Testament law? This sermon attempts to answer this question and give insights from Romans 5-8 on the Christian's new relationship to the Old Testament law, and how God's Spirit empowers us to fulfill its righteous requirements.
