In this section of Romans 5 Paul wants to assure his readers (the first century church in Rome and us) that our heavenly hope is well grounded. It goes like this: Jesus died for his enemies. That's a pretty big deal when you consider that people don't just go around dying for people--let alone their enemies.
Because of the sacrifice of Christ, our sins are forgiven. God has repaired our sin-fractured relationship with him through the cross of Christ. If this is the case, if God did all this for us when we were wicked sinners, how much more will he now see us through to eternity.
Christian, you can rest assured that if you belong to Christ, he has rescued you from wrath and you will be "saved by his life" (more on this idea in chapter 6!).
