Paul's challenge to first century Judaism is instructive for the people of God today: live with a heart for God. Hypocrisy is saying one thing and doing another; it's saying you love Jesus but not living like it, preaching that people should keep the commandments, then going out and breaking them with no remorse.
This message challenges us to think hard about what we're trusting in for salvation. What do we hang our hat on? Our baptism? Confirmation? That time when we went forward at summer camp to receive Jesus as our "personal Savior"? Strip away all those "identity markers" or "security blankets" that make us think we're okay with God and make Jesus the main thing.
