The Heavens Declare the Glory of God...  God has revealed himself to everyone on the earth, from New York City to the Amazon jungle, through the creation.  If we will only listen, the universe will tell us where it came from.  Whether we peer through a telescope and glimpse light years of history, or study the wonders of the human body, the creation points to its Creator.

So We Cover Our Ears...  The human response is not to glorify God or to ponder the evidence thoughtfully, but to suppress it in unrighteousness.  Instead of rejoicing in God, we push him away, choosing to worship the creation, NBA players, food, entertainment, careers, ourselves.

The Need for Jesus...  Paul is building an argument through Romans to show our need for a Savior.  That is why he begins with a problem: humanity is bent away from God.  We suppress his witness in creation, and slap him in the face by worshipping everything but him.  Rejecting God leads to false worship and immorality, as the rest of Romans 1 will show.  In the end, the only thing that will save us is the grace of God, providing forgiveness through the sacrifice of his Son for our sin.
