"The gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." This is the Apostle Paul's great summary of centrality of preaching the word of God. Somehow, by God's great power, he makes the preaching of the good news of Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and exaltation effective to change hearts. Paul, and many millions after him, have been willing to risk their lives to bring this good news to their friends and neighbors over the past 20 centuries.
These two verses comprise the theme of Romans: the righteous will live by faith. Paul will lay a foundation for this truth and then spend the rest of the letter unpacking what it looks like in real life.
