It would be great if false teachers wore black and had horns, but the Apostles Paul's opponents schmoozed the Corinthians into a false gospel with smooth talking, good looks, and dynamic personalities.
He refused to answer on their terms. Sort of. Paul is forced to confront the false teaching in hopes of saving the Corinthian flock. The next four chapters deal with this conflict. The Apostle sets out to re-establish his authority in order to help the Corinthians see the truth and build them up in Christ.
