1 John 2: Assurance Through Obedience

The confirmation of a ministry or pastor is not how dynamic or winsome or loving or powerful he is.  In Matthew 7:22 Jesus warned that pastors, TV evangelists and miracle workers will one day stand before him, parading their good works, exorcisms and miracles as proof of their anointing.

Jesus said he doesn't know them.

John wants to reassure his readers that Jesus is the real thing, and not to be knocked off course by false teachers and antichrists who left their church in disagreement with the gospel.  False teachers abounded in the first century.  They abound today.  It's not unusual, it's just satanic.  Stick with the real thing.
