The Corinthians were blessed with lots of spiritual gifts and were eager to exercise them, but not necessarily for the benefit of anyone but themselves. Paul stresses the importance of serving each other with our gifts and talents. In this chapter he argues for the priority of prophecy over tongues because people can understand what you are saying when you prophecy, but not when you speak in an unknown language. He concludes with a controversial discussion of women's roles in the worship service.
