Children's Church at Anchor
Children's Ministry at Anchor... Anchor is working on its children's ministry, meaning that we have one baby and three couples are pregnant.
This Summer: During "Anchor Underground" (6/19-8/21) we will be meeting in parks around Long Beach. Families can sit together and the kids will love it. Babies can squeak and make noise--that's what they do. We roll with it.
In the Fall: Anchor will start up it's children's ministry again. We will offer Children's Church for kids up to 3rd grade. We do not provide Children's Church for kids above 3rd grade, but welcome them in the main worship service. This accomplishes several important purposes:
1) It helps kids get used to "big church" and makes it easier to make that transition, if they begin worshipping with adults at a younger age.
2) It more closely parallels the biblical concept of multi-generational worship ("Sunday School" is a relatively modern notion).
3) Since parents should be the primary spiritual influence on their children, it is vital that families worship together, that kids see their parents worshipping and learning in church.
Children of all ages are welcome in the main worship service.
Our Vision for Ministry to Children... Our vision for our children's ministry is to create a an exciting learning experience on Sundays for kids through 3rd grade.
After 3rd grade, we invite children to assimilate into the main worship service, where our music and teaching take their age and growth level into consideration--while also challenging them to reach a little beyond where they are.
This is part of an overall teaching philosophy of challenging all believers to be mature in their thinking (1 Corinthians 14:20). God calls us to love him with our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30). This is not merely intellectual, but to the degree we can grow in our understanding of our Lord, we may expand our ability to worship and glorify him.
