Expressers Of God And The Disarming Of Satan

We ought to be the best expressers of God that ever walked on this earth. When I say this you will immediately think that I am talking about the way you look to the world. Though this is definitely part of it, I think that we have erred by accepting (or allowing) into the churches the St. Francis of Assisi heresy that you can preach the gospel without words.

Romans 6:1-11: Freedom from Sin via Union with Christ

Paul argues that Christians can longer live in sin because they are now dead to sin. When a person comes to faith in Jesus Christ, they must also realize that they are united into Christ's death, burial & resurrection. Christ's story now becomes the believer's story. And constantly thinking about this reality will enable every believer to continue to die to their "old self" and continue to "put on" their new self (Jesus Christ) so that they will constantly experience freedom from sin. Believers must realize that when they sin, this is not who they are IN CHRIST. This right thinking about who we are in Christ must be a regular exercise so that we will not be deceived by sin.

Romans 5:1-11: Hope of Future Glory

Paul transitions from proving our justification by faith in Jesus Christ to the assurance we have of future glory and the power that enables us to live our lives in Christ (i.e. the Holy Spirit). Specifically in verses 1-11, we see that no matter what life throws our way, we can be assured of our future hope in the glory of God. We see that our justification brings multiple blessings and that the love of God is shown to be the greatest act of love in human history. Thus, our response is to boast only in God through the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only object worthy of our devotion and boasting. It is God who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ; and for this we boast ONLY in Him.

Romans 4:13-25: If God says it, we can believe it!

Paul proves his point that justification takes place only through faith by referring to the life of Abraham--the forefather, hero and prime example for the Jews. Paul elaborates from the life of Abraham that works nor circumcision nor the Law had anything to do with Abraham being counted as righteous before God. All outward evidences and behaviors were only a seal or sign of the righteousness that Abraham had already attained by faith in God's promise to him. Thus, even though Abraham had momentary lapses in faith, we see that in the end, he did not waiver in his faith when God called him to sacrifice his only son--heir to the promise. In other words, Abraham believed that if God said it, he could trust God. He was fully convinced that God is able to accomplish anything He promises; He is God. And since Abraham was declared righteous because of his faith in God, so also are anyone (Jew or Gentile--anyone from any culture or ethnicity) who exercise the same faith Abraham had in God. Put another way, if we cannot trust God in what He says, then WHO or WHAT can we trust? Nothing!!
