New Here?

Welcome to our website!  We hope you find it informative, helpful, funny and interesting.  If you have not become a follower of Jesus, or you sense your need to grow in your faith, you are very important to us.  Anchor exists to help you come to know God.

Becoming a Follower of Jesus:  Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father, except through me" (John 14:6).  He explained that salvation/eternal life is a gift from God and it can't be earned: "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

The reason why eternal life can't be earned is that we are born sinners, enemies of God.  We may be nice, cultured, educated, good and moral people, but if we have not placed our faith in Christ to make us accepted by God, it is not good enough for God.

On the other hand, you may know without a doubt you're a sinner, even if you are nice, cultured, educated, good and moral.  That gives you an advantage over the nice, cultured, educated, good and moral people who, for some reason, can't quite see their sin and their need to be rescued.

In other words, God knows your heart.  He knows who you really, really are.

All our good works could never outweigh our sins, whether we're Hitler or Ghandi (Yes, the Mahatma was a sinner and needed to entrust his life to Jesus if he was to spend eternity with God).  That is why Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.  He paid a price that we couldn't pay and made salvation a gift.

That's amazing grace!

You can receive Jesus' gift of eternal life right now, wherever you are, whatever you have done.  Ask him to forgive you of your sin and help you to to follow him.  After you have done this, please contact us.  We would love to help you get started in the Christian life.

Growing in Your Faith:  The goal of Christian living is to become more and more like Jesus with his gracious help.  If we were to strip down Christianity to its essence, it is about a relationship with God.  While being a Christian involves obedience, and resisting temptation, and serving and sharing your faith, etc., etc., the heart of it all is knowing God (John 17:3).

Everything we do as Chrisians flows from our relationship with the living God.  This is why we emphasize learning about God from the Bible so we can know him personally, grow in our faith, and be his ambassadors to Long Beach and beyond.
